Brown Trout are not native to Arizona but, they are a amazing sport fish nonetheless. Most are found in high mountain lakes and streams with the majority of them being stocked into the lakes by the Arizona Game and Fish. Brown Trout are a cold water fish meaning they cannot survive in temperatures of 75 degrees. Unlike Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout are only found in a select few places in the state. One of the most famous Brown Trout Fisheries in the world is Chevelon Canyon Lake on the Mogollon Rim. The lake is fed by Chevelon creek which allows the Brown Trout to naturally spawn. There are also a few places in the White Mountains which hold reserves of Browns such as Hawley Lake on the reservation. The appearance of these fish have always been beautiful. They are Golden in color with numerous black spots dominating their sides. The best places to fish for Brown trout are Chevelon Canyon Lake, Hawley Lake, and Riggs Flat Lake.
