The lakes in central Arizona are among the largest and warmest. Trout fishing is slow where you can find it but when they start biting the results are legendary. Huge trout are caught yearly when these fish are ready to feed.
While this area of the state may not attract many seeking a cool vacation it is one of the most important. Central Arizona is the area where Arizona's Retention Reservoirs are held. Roosevelt, Apache, Canyon, Saguaro, Pleasant, Bartlett, and Horseshoe are all retention lakes designed to provide a steady supply of water to the state. While the Salt River supplies the majority through its respective lakes the CAP or Central Arizona Project actually is the source of lake Pleasants water. Without the CAP the lake would be dry as a bone. The lakes also all contain hydroelectric dams which provide power to the Phoenix Metropolitan area. However, despite their social importance the lakes are also a mecca for recreation. Thousands of boats are docked at these lakes and the watersports along with the fishing are incredible in their own right. Many regard lake Pleasant as the best Bass fishing reservoir in the United States. While the Salt river chain have always been recognized for their Crappie, and Channel Catfish. The possibilities are endless so go out and try one of these many central Arizona lakes.
